We performed a comparative study of the water requirements of tobacco in the major producing countries. Climatic conditions in the temperate countries makes that the tobacco in these regions is grown in the summer, so the water needs are high of 249 to 385 mm however due to rainfall regime, apply generally two to four irrigation for varieties with less demanding irrigation, as in the eastern tobacco and four to seven irrigation for varieties with most demanding as in type Virginia and Burley, with total water requirement from 700 to 1440 m3/ha for Eastern tobacco and 1140 to 2840 m3 for the tobacco of broad leaf. The maximum daily evapotranspiration for the temperate climatic conditions is 4.5 to 6.3 mm during the period before the harvest, which is when the tobacco has its greatest demand. The maximum evapotranspiration for the Caribbean is from 2.8 to 3.2 mm / day at the fifty days after transplantation and 3.5 to 4.4 mm / day for Central America . Zones with dry summers, have different characteristics, with values greater than 5 mm / day and with total water requirements from 3000 to 3500 m3/ha, as is the case in Spain in the Mediterranean area.
