Water Requirement

Juan G. R. Irrigation requirements of commercial tobacco cultivars in Cuba.

Hydraulic Engineering. Vol.19 (2):7-12. Havana , Cuba 1998.

During a period of more 20 years in the Cubans field conditions, the irrigation requirements of commercial tobacco cultivars were studied. The evapotranspiration is from 220 to 271mm.The maximum evapotranspiration occurs before the first harvest, with 2,8 to 3,2mm/day.The total net irrigation requirement varies of 1475 to 1654 m3/ha.The net irrigation requirements in each irrigation is of 133 to 360 m3/ha. The irrigations are of 6,4 to 7,8 with an average distribution of: 3, 6 from stage of transplanting to 8-10 leaves, 2, 1 from 8-10 leaves to first harvesting. To use the irrigation in the optimal moment, make possible obtain average yield of 1.9 t/ha for Burley 37 variety, 2, 0 t/ha for Speight G-28 variety, 2, 0 t/ha for Criollo variety, 2, 1 t/ha for covered dark Corojo variety, 2, 2 t/ha for Pelo de Oro variety and increase the production more than 1 t/ha in comparison with no irrigated tobacco.
