In the fight against flooding in Sant Lorenç Mallorca, which is so prone to this type of event, it must protect the area with contour channels that dampen the entrance of external waters to the area and improve the urban surface drainage and drainage of the internal waters within the town, in order to evacuate the runoff of the waters in the affected area in the shortest possible time and ensure that human and economic losses are minimized. Accumulated rainfall of 220 mm was registered in 4 hours due to the effect of the cold drop. As the water did not have a channel to move, it did it through the narrow streets of the town, which caused great mud drags and floods, which provoked the human losses of 13 people, the drag of cars, damage to infrastructures and large losses in material goods valued in millions of euros.

The Island of Mallorca is the main tourist destination of the Balearic Islands with a 65% participation. On October 9, 2018, in the area of Sant Llorenç in Mallorca accumulated rainfall of 220 mm in 4 hours and intervals of more intense rainfall of 100 mm in one hour with an intensity of 1.7 mm / minute, as a result of the drop cold, which caused large mud drags and floods in the town, which caused the human losses of 13 people, the dragging of cars, many of them went to the sea, great damage in infrastructures and large losses in material goods valued in millions of euros. The village was bad built in a small basin, taken by man to nature, obstructing the normal flow of water with temporary flows, which results in large floods from time to time, with the loss of human lives and large economic losses. These devastating natural phenomena have a probability of occurrence in the area between 30 and 50 years like the one that occurred in the historical floods of 1989, the locals have been heard to mention that they had already seen and lived other torrential floods in the place, according to Cels García Professor of Physical Geography at the UIB in Mallorca.

The cold drop has affected again on October 19 to Mallorca this time in the northern region, in the area of Pollença and Albufera have collected a large volume of rainfall, which has flooded fields, residential areas and have overflowed some torrents from the north of the Island, causing road cuts. The area of the Sierra Tramuntana de Mallorca, an accumulated rainfall of 178 liters / m2, has been registered, according to information sources of the newspaper of Mallorca and the National Television of Spain.

Spain has a map of flood risks and it is known that potential areas are flooded. There are maps of flood zones that indicate the risk of flooding every 100 or 500 years. There are stretches of the river that constitute areas that are dangerous that affect people and material goods, as is the case of the flooded town in the Sant Llorenç area, where the necessary works have not yet been projected to protect lives and material goods of that place.

There is historical data of the area where storms with high rainfall are reported, in the east of Majorca on September 6, 1989 a strong storm with a cumulative rainfall of 250 mm in 6 hours and 171 mm rainfall in Sant Llorenç, also overflowed the natural channels and there were floods in the town leaving 3victimas. Another fateful date for the Levante de Mallorca was on October 5, 1932, with records of high rainfall according to information sources of Mallorca.

Climate change is a reality that is characterized by stages of drought and floods, with high intensity of rainfall that is becoming increasingly violent and allows both climatic events to manifest systematically, which indicates that we must prepare for the new challenges that comes with it. In the fight against floods in the Sant Lorenç region, which is so prone to this type of event, the area should be protected with contour channels that dampen the entrance of external waters to the area and improve the urban surface drainage and drainage of the internal waters within the town, in order to evacuate the runoff of the waters in the affected area in the shortest possible time and ensure that human and economic losses are minimized.
